Callaway Apex CF16 Irons Technology

Callaway Apex CF16 Irons Technology

The Callaway Apex CF16 irons are designed to provide distance with playability. For the first time Callaway is using face cups in a forged iron. Face cups are used on the Apex CF16 long and mid irons (3-7), and their wrap-around design makes the club faces thinner and more flexible. This increases ball speeds and forgiveness. The face cups are made of 17-4 stainless steel, and laser welded to the irons’ 1025 carbon steel forged bodies. In the Apex CF16 short irons (8-SW) Callaway uses 17-4 stainless steel face plates rather than face cups to improve consistency feel and distance control. The Apex CF16 irons also offer progressive offset, sole widths, CG and notch weighting to provide the right balance of ball flight, playability, forgiveness and control for each iron. The longer irons feature more offset to provide forgiveness, while the shorter irons have a more compact shape with less offset for feel and control.

The irons are available in 3-SW.

Considering the Apex CF16 irons focus on improving distance and playability for players that seek improvement irons, because the irons are forged they still look very nice. While the longer irons seem larger and more forgiving, the short irons are more compact than the original Apex irons. The face lengths are shorter to offer golfers an improved appearance and more control over their trajectory. The clubs were noticeably lighter than irons I usually play with.

Performance.  (100 / 100)

I hit the Apex CF16 7 iron with a True Temper XP 95 S300 shaft. My very first hit carried 204 yards for a total distance of 215 yards. By far the longest 7 iron I have ever hit. I had to double check I had a 7 iron in my hand! On average I carried the ball 199 yards for a total distance of 209 yards. These numbers are crazy long! Almost 30 yards longer than my own 7 iron. Personally I don’t need to hit my 7 iron that far, but these irons would be perfect for any player seeking for distance improvement. If you need help hitting the ball further these are your clubs! The Apex CF16 irons also launched at a decent height of 19.3 degrees, and were not spinney at all.

Final Thoughts (overall) (98 / 100)

Best distance improvement irons I have ever hit. Crazy long! I recommend the Apex CF16 irons to a mid to high handicap player seeking extra distance out of their irons. You won’t regret this purchase.
