Review: Cleveland 588 RTX Wedges

Review: Cleveland 588 RTX Wedges

I don’t know about everyone else, but when I think of the top wedge makers I think of Cleveland. The company has been ahead of the curve when it comes to making wedges for a long time, and the Cleveland 588 RTX wedges continue this tradition, especially when it comes to spin. These Satin Chrome wedges are something special — check them out.

OUCH! The distance isn’t in these clubs. No matter what I did I couldn’t get these clubs up to the distance that I hit normally. What the 588 RTX wedges lack in distance they make up for in other aspects. You will have to decide: do you want distance or spin?

If you can think it you can do it, these Cleveland wedges really let you work the ball. I was starting to feel like Bubba Watson hitting 40-yard draw shots. With all the workability, the control is still there. Cleveland introduced there S Sole technology to these wedges, which has narrow sole and a wider heel. This technology is why it is so easy to work the 588 RTX’s.  I’m impressed with the precision of the club.

What these wedges lost in distance they made up in spin. You better re-evaluate your shots, because with these wedges you can definitely spin the ball of the green if you are not careful. I would say that Cleveland has one of the top spinning-wedges on the market. They were able to achieve this high spin because of a few new features like the Rotex pattern, laser milling, and larger U-shaped grooves.

Cleveland is on the mark with feel. These wedges feel great, they are soft enough to give you confidence in hitting shots where you are working the ball but hard enough for those fine-tune shots around the green.

The Cleveland 588 RTX is one of, if not the top-spinning club on the market. The workability and control of these wedges is amazing. Where did the distance go? The ball just doesn’t carry with these clubs.  There are a lot of good things about these wedges, but I have a hard time losing all the distance. Try these wedges out for yourself, though; the amount of spin you can generate will really make you feel like a Tour player.
