TaylorMade R11 Irons

The 2011 TaylorMade R11 Irons are available HERE used from 2nd Swing.

2nd Swing Golf Blog writer and PGA Pro Matt Keller gives excellent marks to the TaylorMade R11 Irons.

Released in 2011, Keller says that the TaylorMade R11 Irons represent a solid iron that offers forgiveness, accuracy and consistency.

“The R11 stacks up as one of TaylorMade’s most diverse and consistent sets produced.” — 2nd Swing Golf Blog

TaylorMade R11 Irons

Our 2nd Swing Golf Blog critic rates the TaylorMade R11 Irons very high at a great price today.

The R11 Irons are playable enough for low- and high-handicap players. After evaluating the review, you will quickly see how the R11 stacks up as one of TaylorMade’s most diverse and consistent sets produced.

TaylorMade R11 Irons

TaylorMade R11 Irons’ tech is comparable to Titleist and PING lines from the same era.

Technology (10 out of 10 Rating)

Players will quickly notice the red “Precision Weighting Port” on the back of the TaylorMade R11 Irons. The R11’s are designed to consistently maintain the same swing weight and center of gravity (CG) in each iron, which is quite a feat.

TaylorMade’s Inverted Cone Technology enhances the sweet spot for faster ball speeds and more distance on off-center hits.

The TaylorMade R11 Irons also are designed with an Ultra-Thin Face for faster ball speeds and distance in the long and mid irons.

Finally, the Multi-Functional Sole allows the iron to perform as if there is a thinner sole and launch the ball higher.

I say TaylorMade placed significant research into the R11 irons and the set rates fantastic in technology.

TaylorMade R11 Irons look pretty good, as you can see here.

Looks (8 out of 10 Rating)

The TaylorMade R11 Irons feature a progressive topline throughout the entire set.

In addition, the R11 set has a slight progressive offset. The clubs appear slightly larger than a typical player’s iron and leaner than a game improvement stick.

The irons look easy to hit and rate pretty well.

Performance (8 out of 10 Rating)

I tested the TaylorMade R11 Irons with the stock stiff KBS 90-gram shaft. The R11’s are very forgiving, consistent and provide a mid to high ball flight throughout the entire set. The R11 irons perform very similar in distance compared to irons, such as the R11’s contemporary in the PING s57 set. TaylorMade also offers irons such as the vaunted RocketballZ (RBZ) set for players searching for more distance.

However, the R11 provide more-precise distance control.

The TaylorMade R11 Irons provide excellent feel and forgiveness. The slightly larger clubhead and Inverted Cone Technology increase the sweet spot across the clubface. Off-center hits feel decent while not sacrificing distance and accuracy.

The R11 iron rates a B in performance and are a very solid set and consistent for players of all ability levels.

A progressive toe is featured on the TaylorMade R11 Irons.

Final Thoughts (Overall Rating: 9 out of 10)

The world’s largest golf stick maker provides alternative features in a variety of iron sets. However, the TaylorMade R11 Irons combine everything making it one of the most diverse sets TaylorMade has ever designed.

Originally priced at $799.99, it should be reasonable to find the R11 Irons at a reduced rate on either a new or used set (See, for instance.). Additionally, they were priced at less than several other comparable competitors, such as the Titleist AP2 and PING i20 irons.

Overall, the TaylorMade R11 Irons are a very solid, perform well and rate excellent in value.
